Frequently Asked Questions

Find clear answers to common inquiries about our photo scanning and digital preservation services. This guide helps you understand our process, pricing, and how we protect your memories.

  • How does the photo scanning process work?

We carefully handle each photo, scanning at high resolution to capture every detail. Originals are returned safely, and digital files are organized for easy access.
  • Can you preserve old or damaged photos?

Many old photos can be easily scanned and digitized. While we do not perform restoration, our scanning captures the best possible image quality for digital preservation. It's recommended that some photos not be scanned if they are very delicate. If you have questions we can evaluate them at the time of delivery or pick-up.

  • How are digital files delivered?

Digital images are delivered on USB drives. Files are organized and labeled for easy browsing.

  • Is my privacy protected during the process?

We prioritize your privacy and handle all photos with confidentiality. Your originals remain local, and digital files are stored securely until delivery.
  • Preparing your photos for scanning

A little preparation makes the scanning process faster and helps ensure your memories are organized exactly the way you want them.

    1. Organize Your Photos the Way You Want Them Digitally

Think about how you want your photos grouped once they are scanned. Many people organize by:

Family member or branch of the family

    Year or decade

    Event (vacations, holidays, weddings, etc.)

    Albums or original groupings

Place each group together in bundles, envelopes, or small boxes and label them clearly. We will keep photos in the same order they arrive so your digital files follow that same structure.

    2. Keep Photos in Manageable Stacks

Loose prints work best. Place organized groups into rubber-banded bundles, envelopes, or small containers so they stay together during handling and scanning.

Avoid mixing multiple categories in the same stack unless you want them scanned together.

    3. Remove Oversized Photos

Our standard scanning process handles prints up to 8×10 inches.

Please remove anything larger than 8×10 before sending your photos.

    4. Set Aside Fragile or Damaged Photos

Photos that are torn, heavily curled, brittle, or stuck together can jam scanning equipment. If a photo cannot be safely handled, set it aside so we can evaluate it separately.

    5. Remove Items Attached to the Photo

Anything attached to a photo will be copied in the scan. Before sending photos, remove:

    Sticky notes

    Tape

    Paper clips or staples

    Labels covering the image

If you want to preserve written notes, the best approach is to leave writing on the back of the photo - we will scan the fronts and backs if requested.

    6. Removing Photos from Albums.

To be scanned properly, all photos must be loose prints. Photos cannot be scanned while still attached to album pages.

    7. Don’t Worry About Perfect Condition

Dust, fingerprints, and minor marks are normal on older photos. Light cleaning and basic image correction are handled during the scanning process and will remove many minor blemishes.

    The main goal:

Organize your photos the way you want them remembered. We’ll take care of turning them into clean, organized digital files your family can enjoy for years to come.
